Note from Jean Long Manteufel:

After 64 years in business, we are closing A-1 Moving & Storage. I have been running the company for 30 years.  I am ready to slow down and dedicate more time to my passion: helping seniors as they transition from their big family home.

Mom and Dad, Jerry and Gladie Long, started our company in 1960.  My brother Gary and I bought the company in 1999. Eventually, Gary moved on to other adventures.  My son, Mike Manteufel, started working here 24 years ago and has been partnering with me for the past ten years.

Each of our generations has really enjoyed working together.

Now it is time for us to move onto our next adventure. We will be taking the next month to complete the services we have scheduled with our current customers.

I will be continuing with Long’s Senior Transitions, previously a division of A-1 Moving & Storage: now it will be a stand-alone company.  Mike is ready to move on to other opportunities.

For our long-distance customers, I will be working with Advantage Moving & Storage, a fellow North American Van Lines agent based out of Chicago.  We have been partnering for many years.

Thank you to all our wonderful customers:  It has been a great pleasure serving our clients as they have moved onto their next adventures.

Our employees are second to none. We would be remiss if we didn’t thank Denise Wichman and Doug Radomski, who have each given us their dedicated service for over ten years. Laura Muinde, my sister, has been lending a hand for 7 years.  Max Griffith, Lola Rottier, and Julie Stammer were great to have with us.

Thanks to our community:  We have enjoyed participating in so many community events and will really miss the Fox Cities Kidz Expo, the Kiwanis Butterfly Festival, the Salvation Army, Jake’s Network of Hope, Feeding America and the Community Christmas Food Drive.

Look for me at Long’s Senior Transitions and writing my monthly Transitions column for the Post Crescent.  I am always eager to speak at senior events to share how to make transitions easier.  I can still be found at Jean@TransitionsWithJean.com  or 920-734-3260.

They say, “Without change, there’d be no butterflies.”  Mike and I are looking forward to discovering what this change will bring. Thank you.
