Our Story

A-1 Moving & Storage is a family owned company. Back in 1918, Grandpa (Harry H. Long) started moving families in the Fox River Valley. He started with a team of horses and a wagon.

In the 1920’s, Harry H. Long was the first person in Wisconsin to own and operate a moving van. In 1948, after Grandpa passed away, Grandma (Alice Long) managed the business. During the 1970’s, Harry H. Long Moving & Storage started to specialize in transportation of containerized overseas freight shipments.

My Dad, Jerry Long, grew up in the family business. When Grandma’s company began to focus more on overseas freight shipments, Dad began to build his own reputation as a professional mover. In 1960, Dad and Mom (Jerry and Gladie Long) purchased A-1 Cartage.

I (Jean Long Manteufel) moved back home in 1987 and started working for A-1 Moving. We are now into our fourth generation as professional movers. My son (Mike Manteufel) joined the company ranks in 1997. Today, I own and manage A-1 Moving & Storage.

A-1 Moving & Storage has again been recognized by North American Van Lines for achieving a customer satisfaction rating of “Excellent.” We take pride in the level of service that we give to all of our customers. Whether you are moving across town or across the country, you can count on A-1 Moving & Storage to provide you with the best moving and storage service in the industry today.
